27/01/2022The appointment of Beatriz Larraz Iribas as director of the Tajo Chair created by the University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM) and the Soliss Foundation has already been made official and will promote the comprehensive recovery and improvement of the ecological state of the river and its tributaries. through scientific research, training and dissemination. The activities of the new chair, which has an endowment of 40,000 euros per year, will be articulated in collaboration with the Tagus Research Group and include conferences, scholarships, awareness-raising actions and the rehabilitation of the river as it passes through the Weapons Factory.
Beatriz Larraz has a degree in Mathematical Sciences from the Autonomous University of Madrid and a doctorate in Economics and Business Sciences from the University of Castilla-La Mancha. She currently works as a professor of Statistics at the Faculty of Legal and Social Sciences, on the Toledo campus.
After her career as coordinator of the Tagus Research Group since 2013, she now assumes the management functions of this chair. To do this, it will have a team of researchers who, from an interdisciplinary approach, will be able to tackle new joint projects in order to collaborate in the recovery of the Tagus River for its riverside citizens.
This journey that is now beginning will contribute to the Tagus and its rivers being able to provide all the ecosystem services typical of a river system in good condition and fully functional. Specifically, supply services, regulation services, as well as cultural services that improve the quality of life of its citizens through the enjoyment of a safe, clean, healthy and sustainable environment will be the subject of this chair. For this, special attention will be paid to the problems of pollution of the river in its main axis and the absence of a natural river dynamic and its consequences, from an environmental, social, legal and economic approach.
