The Soliss Foundation and the UCLM have received the full support and commitment to collaboration from the Royal Foundation of Toledo, since they share the same objective with which the Tajo Chair has been created.

Toledo, February 4, 2022.

This morning the protocol ceremony for the signing of the collaboration agreement was held at the SOLISS headquarters in Toledo, attended by: Beatriz Larraz Iribas, director of the Tagus Chair; César María Duro, director of the Soliss Foundation and Eduardo Sánchez Butragueño, director of the Royal Foundation of Toledo.

 ROYAL FOUNDATION OF TOLEDO

With this gesture, the Royal Foundation of Toledo wants to highlight its commitment to the defense of the Tagus and its heritage values, as one of its main lines of action since 1988. Support for the Chair is part of a historical link with research and dissemination about the Tagus that has had its meeting point in Roca Tarpeya in recent years and that will now continue with this synergy with the Chair.

As a result of this twinning, two very relevant initiatives were born to continue carrying out actions that make visible the state of the Tagus River as it passes through Toledo and raise awareness of how important and necessary it is to make decisions that begin to mitigate such an environmental catastrophe.

2. DIDACTIC PROJECT ON THE TAGUS RIVER

This is a project designed to involve schools and institutes to give visibility to the persistent deplorable state of our river. Titled “50 years without our river”, it was born with the conviction that an enormous amount of ecological awareness can be done from the school environment, already from the earliest ages since young people do not, in general, have a positive experience of the river. Tajo because they have always known it to be contaminated. And there are even few teachers, still active, who have known a clean Tajo. Its main objectives are:

  •  Know the fundamental role of rivers both in ecosystems and in human activities.
  • Investigate the uses of the Tagus River before it becomes a polluted river.
  • Observe human action on the river: dams and weirs, hydroelectric plants.
  • Assess the monumental heritage that the river has generated: bridges, aqueduct, "Artificio de Juanelo".
  • Discover the fundamental role of the Tagus in the identity of the city of Toledo.
  • Investigate the Tagus River in literature and art.
  • Know the causes of pollution of the Tagus River and the effect on its ecosystem.
  • Understanding rivers as the axis of socioeconomic transformation of cities.
  • Discover the potential of rivers as an element of quality of life in cities: see models of these cities and their comparison with Toledo.
