28/09/2022Report on drought and scarcity indicators in the Tagus basin (September 2022)
- You can now consult the latest report on drought and shortage indicators in the Tagus basin for September 2022, in which two areas enter a situation of prolonged drought and one area is on alert due to shortages.
- Two areas have entered a situation of prolonged drought, Cabecera and Árrago. The rest of the basin is in a normal situation.
- The contributions in the Headquarters have been less than 50% of the average. That the headwaters of the Tagus enter a situation of prolonged drought should be one more element to take into account in the exploitation rules of the Entrepeñas and Buendía reservoirs.
- Water inflows to the Árrago reservoirs have been practically nil (less than 1 hm3) during the months of July and August.
- In a situation of prolonged drought, no body of water affected by the Tagus Headwaters can see its flow reduced below the established legal limits.
- In prolonged drought, flows in the Árrago River could be reduced by 0.03 m3/s. But complying with the minimum ecological flow should not be a problem since it would represent only 2.4% of the current dammed volume.
- The Bajo Tajo area has entered an alert situation (severe shortage) and, for its part, the Riegos del Alagón UTE continues in the constant pre-alert situation (moderate shortage) of recent months.
- The alert situation of the Bajo Tajo is compatible with the satisfaction of urban, agricultural and industrial demands, as well as with the flows provided for by the Albufeira Convention.
